After
Mumbai, flash mob comes to Chennai
CHENNAI: Time 4pm. Sunday . The Express Avenue mall
in Royapettah was buzzing with shoppers. Some were moving
from window to window for that elusive choice, some
were digging into food and others were getting in and
out of garments. Ten minutes past four , the song 'Boom
, Boom Robo Da , Robo Da' boomed out of nowhere and
nearly 70 persons swarm together at a point and broke
into a seemingly impromptu but well-rehearsed jig .
It was Chennai's first flash mob .
The event
was organized to promote the ninth Chennai International
Film Festival (CIFF) to be held between December 14
and 22. Actor Shylaja Chetlur , a CIFF committee member
, said the idea was born after a recent show by a flash
mob at Mumbai CST railway station, which took the internet
by storm .
Actor Suhasini
, the brain behind the Chennai flash mob , told TOI
it was dedicated to actor Rajinikanth whose birthday
falls on December 12. "This is our gift for him
."

to the mall for Margazhi raagas
Amonth-long
classical music and dance festival, 'Raaga and Expressions'
began at Express Avenue Mall on Sunday. The festival
organised by cultural organisation 'Sree Anandabhairavi'
is in its fifth year and is being organised in a
mall for the first time. Raaga and Expressions will
feature vocal and instrumental performances along
with jugalbandi and dance programmes. Organisers
say they chose to have the performances in a mall
as an effort to popularise the classical arts among
Chennaiites.
